This past weekend I went to New York City for my first official time (Though I have been there while driving to JFK and the U.N. it doesn’t count since it was international territory). It was just brilliant, I loved it.
The original plane wasn’t even to go near the city. Dianna and I wanted to go to Bamboozle but since we are lazy children we didn’t make it to Northern New Jersey till around 7 at night. Once there we walked around Giant Stadium got invited to some parties at the Sharaton but eventually got bored and decided to go to the other side of the river.
Once we got into NYC itself I made a fool of myself by yelling at the statue of liberty and random other sites explaining my family’s history to the inanimate historical locations. Dianna and I somehow found our way to Hell’s Kitchen where I decided to call my father and tell him our random location. He then told me some history about how my family used to live on the street we were parked on and I yelled back saying that they should have kept the place since then I would then have a place to sleep. We walked about Mulberry Street having Italian men yell which gave me a flashback to Italy and I decided to buy more scarves to add to my collection.
We then got bored and thought that we should head to CBGBs to see what was happening. Luckily we came across a fantastic rock and roll band/ hipster night. It really was a dilapidate place with only stickers holding it together. Di bought me some gin and tonics which I gratefully quickly drank up. I danced to some of the bands while no one moved because hipsters are such boring stiffs. People kept taking pictures of Di and I similar to when we were younger. I thought it was funny.
After the show we walked over to St. Martin’s square to get pizza. I think that it was there that I fell completely on love with the city. It had such a loveliness about it. I just adore it there.
The next day we went to Bamboozle. I thought it was horrible this year, well basically having to pay to see bands was the first strike against it. Then the fact that the bands were overall not as good as the previous years and the set up in a too warped tourish manner minus the number of bands. I did think that Strike Anywhere, Panic at the disco and Riverboat Gambles were the only decent bands to play. The rest where mundane scene bands that just made noise without the backing. The Northern NJ/ NYC scene is still a bit to obsess with the screamo metal genre. I wish it would just die.
But now I must go and finish my homework because my teachers have started to email me about my missing work. One more final this Friday and then I’m done with my sophomore year. Thank god.
( Because I have an obcession with cameras )
